So, I would like to recall this since some people doesn’t seem to get why is the Doctor so bitter after losing Amy and Rory. Ok, here’s what I think.
When we met him as Nine, he was kinda bitter, he didn’t cared about people as people, they were just inoffensive creatures he had to protect in order to feel less guilty about his past. Then he met Rose and she brought the kindness out of him again. By the time he met Rose he said he was 900 years old. Then we traveled for some time until Rose get trapped. Then when he was traveling with Martha, he claimed to be 903 years old. Then again, he was still 903 when he met Donna, meaning he traveled with Martha for less than a year. When he became Eleven, he was 906 years old. Meaning he traveled with Donna for about 3 years. Then the Doctor traveled alone for a year. He was 907 years old when he met little Amy Pond. Then again, a few hours later he met older Amy Pond, being still 907.
When they saw him die in the beach, he was 909 years old. But the same day, older Doctor was 1103 years old. He would leave them and then years ago he would come back. When he left them, he was 1200 years old. After that, he would stop traveling with them, but kept in touch. Calling sometimes, even visiting them. Having a place to go and tell his stories. His best friends, the Ponds. I don’t know how old he was when he lost them. But we need to remember, he spend about 3 years with past companions each. But his friendship with the Ponds lasted for more than 293 years.
It’s important to understand why is he bitter again. Why he needs a new Rose Tyler to bring the kindness back to him. To remember him the value of life. To intrigue him and motivate him to be himself again.
I think it’s selfish to hate Clara because she’s not Rose. I also think it’s selfish to think the Doctor is being unfair to the other companions because he didn’t acted like that when he lost them. All I have to say is, try to lose an almost 300 years long friendship, and then we’ll talk.
I would be “The girl who drink all the red wine”. Who would you be?
